Synopsis (short abstract) Magement advisory for the Bay of Bengal Indian mackerel fishery The BOBLME Project is supporting countries to implement an ecosystem approach to fisheries magement of shared fishstocks in the Bay of Bengal. The EAFM framework has three tiers: working groups to provide technical information; a Regiol Fisheries Magement Advisory Committee (RFMAC) - to interpret the information and deliver ecosystem based fisheries magement advice; and a Regiol Fisheries Magement Forum (RFMF) to deliberate on the a dvice and make decisions for tiol actions. The RFMAC comprises members from the eight BOBLME countries, SEAFDEC, FAO, BOBP-IGO and IUCN.

Objectives of the workshop were: (a) to review the status of fisheries and management of short mackerels (Rastrelliger spp.) on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia; (b) based on information generated in (a), to develop a draft management plan for the fishery. To facilitate a full and frank participation of fishermen as much as possible in the workshop’s discussions, the workshop was run in the Malay language. Translation to English was made by Malaysian participants whenever necessar y for the benefit of non-Malay speaking participants. The agenda of the workshop appears in Appendix C.
