No results found.This local level land resources assessment methodology (LADA-Local) was produced within the Land Degradation Assessment in Drylands (LADA) project. See Box 1 for the LADA project objectives and outcomes and the website www.fao.org/nr/lada for further information. The main purpose of LADA-Local is to provide a standard methodological approach and tool-kit for the assessment of land degradation processes, their causes and impacts at local1 level in collabor ation with local stakeholders and communities. The focus is on human-induced land degradation; however, natural degradation processes are also addressed. For a more balanced and complete understanding, the approach also assesses the extent to which land resources (soil, vegetation, water) and landscapes/ecosystems are being conserved and/or improved by sustainable land management (SLM) practices.

This chapter reviews the prospects and challenges facing the agricultural sector in Sub-Saharan Africa over the next decade. It reviews sector performance, outlines the current market context, provides detailed quantitative medium term projections for the ten-year period 2016-25, and assesses key risks and uncertainties. The outlook for agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa is situated in the context of several mega-trends that shape the sector’s development. These include rapid population growth, u rbanisation and rural diversification, an associated structural transformation from farm to non-farm employment, a growing middle class, and increasing interest (both domestically and globally) in the continent’s farmland. No results found.This document contains the report of the Fourth Annual Meeting of the Aquaculture Network for Africa (ANAF), which was held in Entebbe, Uganda, from 4 to 6 December 2012. The participants addressed and made decisions on matters concerning relevant follow-up to the third ANAF meeting. The meeting was attended by the ANAF National Focal Points from nine member countries, two international consultants, two representatives from NEPAD, a representative from ACP FISH II (Eastern Africa), a consultant from the FAO Regional Office for Africa and an FAO Aquaculture Officer. The meeting discussed the steps for the establishment and management of National Aquaculture Advisory Group (NAAG) and National Aquaculture Farmer Associations (NAFA) in ANAF Member Countries. The participants adopted a strategy to turn ANAF into a functional Intergovernmental Organization and they discussed and endorsed the ANAF work plan for 2013. During the session, three task forces were established and elaborated the ir terms of references for the preparation of three distinguished reports. These reports will describe the measures that ANAF member countries shall take in order to turn the ANAF into an Intergovernmental Organization. The reports will be presented and finalized at the Fifth ANAF Annual Meeting to be held in September 2013 in Dakar, Senegal.
