dc.description.abstract Octanoic acid is manufactured from vegetable oils (coconut, palm, kernel, or palm stearin) by first refining the oil, followed by methyl transesterification and separation by distillation. The separated methyl octanoate is saponified and acidified to give octanoic acid.
