DocumentStrengthening food safety in Vietnam - TCP/VIE/3503 2017Food safety has long been an issue in Viet Nam, concerning both consumers and government officials. Through the adoption of the Food Safety Law 2010 and subordinate instruments, the Government framed the mechanisms and structures for modern food safety management; however, improvement was still very slow. It was therefore necessary to review the current legislation, procedures and structure of food safety management in the country, and provide recommendations to restructure the concerned agencies and institutions.

No results found.The Vietnam Food Administration is responsible for managing food hygiene, safety, and quality and has made significant progression since its establishment in 1999. Food safety remains a high priority in Vietnam with growth of export markets and increasing food imports, there is a need to rapidly build the capacity of the food Administration to reduce the threats of foodborne disease. The Food Administration has demonstrated commitment to the food safety challenges it faces, and has embarked on an innovative capacity building activity with technical assistance from the World Health Organization.
