    Under the umbrella of the 50x2030 Initiative to Close the Agricultural Data Gap, FAO collaborates with the Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics (TNBS) and the Office of the Chief Government Statistician in Zanzibar (OCGS) to implement the national annual agricultural sample survey (AASS). FAO provides technical support for the design and implementation of four annual agricultural surveys from 2023 to 2026 to generate timely, high-quality agricultural data. Through the Initiative, the country will strengthen its national statistics system, improve the use of survey data in policymaking and enhance the capacity of key data users to optimize evidence-based decisions. This brief analyses the data of the agricultural season 2022/23, providing key insights on farming in the United Republic of Tanzania. It presents indicators on agricultural land and holding size, crop output and income, farm input use and the participation of women in agriculture.

    Reducing losses in agricultural commodities is a priority for the agricultural sector in the Niger: lower losses lead to increased food availability, enhanced national food security and strengthened agri-food value chains. To provide up-to-date and quality evidence on the magnitude of food losses, 720 households were surveyed between September and December 2024 across the country, covering the country’s key crops and major on-farm stages of the agri-food value chains, including harvest, post-harvest and transportation. This thematic brief offers valuable insights into on-farm losses for six of the Niger's most significant agricultural commodities: millet, sorghum, maize, cowpeas, groundnuts, and sesame. By employing a comprehensive approach that integrates physical measurements with farmers' declarations, the survey delivers robust quantitative estimates of these losses. Additionally, it sheds light on the effectiveness of various data collection methods, paving the way for future assessments.
