These 129 country reports were prepared in 2013/2014 as inputs to the preparation of the FAO publication The Second Report on the State of the World’s Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.
The country-reporting process potentially served as a basis for the development or revision of national strategies and action plans for animal genetic resources.
The reports were prepared using a standardized electronic questionnaire approved by the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. Government-appointed National Coordinators for the Management of Animal Genetic Resources led the preparation of the reports in their respective countries.
The assignment of countries to the regions and subregions for the purposes of the The Second Report on the State of the World’s Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture follows the assignment used in the first report on The State of the World’s Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. This assignment was based on a number of considerations, including production environments, cultural factors and the distribution of shared animal genetic resources. Because of these considerations, the regional groupings do not correspond exactly to the standard FAO regions.
