5. SIDE ACTIVITIES

5.1. TRAINING CAPACITY BUILDING
5.2. RESEARCH

5.1. TRAINING CAPACITY BUILDING

In the forestry sector, sensitization of staff members, especially at the District Forest Offices, as to the significance of forest genetic resources, is necessary (Dr. Harrison Kojwang, pers. comm.).

Training of the NTSC staff in long-term storage of forest genetic resources is necessary to enhance their capacity. Improvement in existing facilities to enable long-term storage of germplasm is also necessary.

5.2. RESEARCH

There is very limited research in indigenous species, therefore, basic information, such as phenology and population dynamics, should be prioritized as research topics (Herta Kolberg, pers. comm.). Studies on autoecology of selected species would be important especially to increase numbers of species where necessary (Dr. Harrison Kojwang, pers. comm.).
