6. PROPOSAL FOR REGIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION

6.1. REGIONAL CO-OPERATION SCHEMES
6.2. INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION

6.1. REGIONAL CO-OPERATION SCHEMES

There is an existing SADC Tree Seed Centre Network, which enables regional seed centres to exchange germplasm and seed technology.

The NPGRC has links with SADC Plant Genetic Resources Project and the Southern Africa Botanical Diversity Network (SABONET) capacity building project. The NPGRC also has ad hoc agreements with various institutes for exchange of herbarium material and also for supplying germplasm for research purposes (Herta Kolberg and Gillian Maggs-Kölling, pers. comm.).

6.2. INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION

The Kew Royal Botanical Gardens and IPGRI (International Board for Plant Genetic Resources Institute) are initiating the millennium seedbank project, with which the NPGRC plans to collaborate (Herta Kolberg & Gillian Maggs-Kölling, pers. comm.).
