Book (series)Evaluation of FAO’s contribution to Cabo Verde 2018–2022 2023
Also available in:
No results found. This evaluation reviews the FAO country programme in Cabo Verde over the 2018–2022 timeframe. FAO remains a reference institution for rural development and the country's maritime economy, particularly appreciated for its inclusive approach and outreach. FAO’s technical role is jeopardized by the limited critical mass of technical experts available in the country. FAO has significantly assisted the country in institutional strengthening (Right to Adequate Food law, SDG indicator 2.1.2, food security) however, critical issues remain regarding food and nutrition security (FNS) governance. FAO played a crucial role in the design and initial implementation of the overall strategic, programmatic and institutional framework of the blue economy. There are, nonetheless, concerns regarding the institutional uptake and consolidation by national partners of the obtained results. A more incisive contribution to the sector of small/artisanal fishery and a comprehensive capacity development programme is needed to address the blue economy challenges. -

No results found. The Republic of Korea funded FAO's project OSRO/CVI/054/ROK entitled “Safeguarding food security and livelihoods of the most vulnerable populations in Cabo Verde” for USD 100 000. The project was implemented from 19 May 2023 to 31 December 2023. The project's objective was to safeguard the food security and livelihoods of the most vulnerable people on the islands of Santo Antão and Santiago. FAO distributed 615 food baskets to 615 food-insecure households, 87 percent of which were headed by women. To achieve this, 51 households, including 38 small-scale producers and 13 operators of agricultural warehouses, provided fresh produce to increase food basket nutritional value and boost local supply networks. Households were able to cover their food needs for two months, enabling them to consume three meals a day.
