    This guide provides an overview of the management of forest reproductive material, highlighting key issues and links to relevant additional information with the overall aim of promoting quality, quantity and successful establishment within the sector. It aims to help users define their needs, plan their seed requirements, identify potential tree sources, and also provides examples of material transfer agreements. Forest reproductive material or germplasm is a general term for seeds, cuttings, po llen, tissue cultures - any biological matter from which new trees are regenerated. It is of utmost importance in forestry management, as it is the means by which trees and forests are improved and cultivated.

    A training workshop was mounted to provide propagation practitioners at the government nurseries and farmers with up-to date and efficient methods of breadnut and breadfruit propagation as a key activity under the project. This manual was prepared to provide long-term support for that training and to facilitate the extension of the training beyond the small group that was exposed to the workshop.
