This publication is a record of the proceedings of the April 2000 meeting of plant pest management experts from China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines and Thailand, as well as from FAO, which took place in Bangkok, Thailand. It includes accounts of plant pest management curriculum in the seven countries and the recommendations made by the consultation. Though most countries in the region offer higher educational courses on plant pest management, the experts agreed that thes e are marked by sharp dissimilarities which need to be reduced. They also urged the need for greater interaction between universities/research institutions and farmers to help produce "well-rounded students imbued with facilitating/learning/communicating skills capable and confident in working with farmers".
