Throughout the Caribbean, decision makers in the agricultural sector are required to make efficient use of resources through the adoption of suitable policy However, making well informed evidence based policy decisions relies upon high quality data, statistics and analyses In the OECS, data production and analysis have historically been an obstacle to the development of agricultural policies and programmes that make impactful changes Moreover, the monitoring and evaluation of policies and national programmes also requires ongoing collection and analysis of data that is both reliable and relevant Agriculture will continue to play a crucial role in the development of the economies of OECS member states However, sustainable value creation along agricultural value chains also depends on the incorporation of both social and environmental considerations National economies (and the regional economy) must therefore be developed based on a participatory approach that considers outcomes for all stakeholders in the agriculture sector, and the collection of data for analysis of these outcomes must be carried out accordingly This project was designed to strengthen the planning function of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines by supporting the development of their agricultural statistics systems.
