No results found.Despite significant progress made in recent decades, millions of people around the world are still affected by food insecurity and acute and chronic malnutrition. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19) pandemic has exacerbated these issues globally. Early warning information allows for the detection of crisis “hotspots” and leads to anticipatory action, which has been shown to save lives, preserve livelihoods, and increase the cost effectiveness of humanitarian resources. In order to inform evidence based decision making for early intervention when crises hit, a set of standardized tools known as the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) was developed in 2004 to assess the severity and magnitude of food insecurity in a given country or area. This project was formulated within the framework of the IPC Global Strategic Programme (GSP) 2019 2022. It supported: the overall structure of the IPC Global Support Unit (GSU); activities for the technical development, quality assurance and institutionalization of IPC; and the achievement of project specific deliverables for IPC capacity development and quality assurance at field level. -

No results found.Bhutan is facing serious issues with land degradation, driven by unsustainable agricultural practices, such as overgrazing, as well as infrastructure construction lacking adequate environmental measures, including mining This is further problematic because Bhutan is a mountainous country, with existing land degradation problems, such as soil erosion, landslides and severe losses in soil fertility These issues further compound issues with agricultural productivity, the environment and food security and the overall quality of life Furthermore, the country lacks a national soil map and there is very limited data available on soil quality Existing soil data are outdated and scattered among institutions, often having been collected through ad hoc surveys, and fundamental data, such as geographic location description ( of sampling sites, is missing, with limited soil profiles mapped Analytical soil data is crucial for decision making regarding soil fertility, which impacts various key areas, including food security, agriculture, the environment, climate change and sustainable development. -

No results found.This publication is a product of the GEF-funded FAO project ‘Decision Support for Mainstreaming and Scaling Out Sustainable Land Management (DS-SLM)’ which has developed a decision support framework (DSF). The DSF integrates experience from work with land degradation (LD) and SLM into an overall strategy for mainstreaming and scaling out SLM at different spatial and temporal scales. This publication serves as a step-by-step guide for the application and implementation of the DSF during planning, design and implementation of SLM interventions. It includes elements – both in its modules and proposed tools and methods – which can support countries in pursuing land degradation neutrality (LDN).

The preparation of Country Reports provided an overview of existing information gaps and helped to establish a baseline information on biodiversity for food and agriculture. They also provided information on the role of biodiversity for food and agriculture in the provision of multiple ecosystem services. No results found.The Food and Agriculture Organization in Bhutan’s Country Programming Framework 2024-2028, a strategic document that enhances the collaborative efforts between the FAO and the Royal Government of Bhutan, has set an ambitious goal of mobilizing approximately USD 83 million.Currently, FAO Bhutan has secured around USD 16 million, with an additional USD 42 million in the pipeline. Furthermore, about USD 25 million is currently under soft commitment.Aligned with FAO's thematic and technical expertise, this framework was developed through a process of inclusivity and collaboration, and it embodies the convergence of national priorities, regional imperatives, and global agenda.It reflects FAO’s commitment to support Bhutan's agriculture, livestock, food systems, environment, and climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts in alignment with the 13th Five Year Plan (FYP) and the UNSDCF (2024-2028). It encompasses the transformation of agrifood systems, sustainable natural resources management, inclusive rural transformation, and resilience building.CPF sets out four priority areas as follows:CPF Priority area 1: Sustainable agrifood systems transformation: accelerating investment, entrepreneurship, product development, and employment in high value agrifood value chains for international markets including through the sustainable use of natural resources.CPF Priority area 2: Food Security, Safety, and nutrition-sensitive and climate-smart agriculture.CPF priority area 3: Sustainable natural resources management, climate change mitigation and adaptation measures, and disaster risk management and preparedness.CPF Priority area 4: Evidence-based agrifood systems planning and programming at national and local levels. -

No results found.Many agrifood development projects and programmes aim to support evidence-based and inclusive policies by organizing policy dialogues. Yet, despite their widely recognized importance, there is little guidance available to date on how to organize effective policy dialogues that are inclusive of diverse stakeholders. This training guide has been developed to address this gap by providing clear and comprehensive guidance on multistakeholder policy dialogue in agrifood systems. This guide also brings the added value of a clear focus on promoting innovation through smart, inclusive and collaboratively developed and implemented policies. The guide is divided into six modules that cover the key concepts, tools and approaches to support participatory, inclusive and evidence-informed policy processes and has been developed in the framework of the European Union-funded "Developing capacities in agricultural innovation systems: scaling up the Tropical Agriculture Platform Framework" (TAP-AIS) project. The training programme outlined in this guide has been implemented in adapted forms in six countries (Cambodia, Colombia, Eritrea, Malawi, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Rwanda) and with regional stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region in the framework of the TAP-AIS project. Experiences and lessons learned from the implementation of this training are presented throughout the guide enriching it and bringing its conceptual background into practical application. Overall this guide is intended to serve as a valuable resource for changemakers globally supporting them to facilitate effective and inclusive policy processes and outcomes contributing to the sustainable transformation of agrifood systems.
