No results found.Through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities (SFERA), the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium contributed USD 500 000 to FAO to mitigate the adverse impacts of two waves of devastating flash floods (May–June 2022) on the livelihoods and food security of vulnerable farming and fishing households. With Belgium’s generous support, FAO will provide 11 200 flood-affected farming and fishing households (56 000 people) with time-critical production inputs. The planned emergency assistance packages will enable the affected communities to restore their livelihoods, and increase crop and aquaculture production. The Central Emergency Response Fund will complement this project by funding interventions to support the livestock sector. This document provides a brief description of the current context of the intervention and highlights the importance of the contribution in enhancing the resilience of flood-affected communities. -

No results found.Through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities, the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium contributed USD 500 000 to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to mitigate the adverse impacts of cyclone Remal on the livelihoods and food security of the most vulnerable farming households in the affected districts. With Belgium’s generous support, FAO, through cash+ interventions, will provide 5 050 farming households (20 200 people) with time‑critical production inputs (e.g. rice and vegetable seeds, fertilizers and agricultural tools) along with cash transfers to enable them to meet their immediate needs. This document provides a brief description of the context of the intervention and highlights the importance of the contribution in supporting the recovery of the affected communities. -

No results found.To mitigate the adverse impacts of El Niño on people’s lives and livelihoods in Nicaragua, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has received financial support from the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium, through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities. The generous contribution will enable FAO to provide staple crop and vegetable seeds along with fertilizers to farming households affected by recurrent extreme climate events over the past three years. The support provided will contribute to quickly increasing households’ availability of and access to nutritious food. Technical assistance will also be provided to help recover their agricultural livelihoods following agricultural losses due to El Niño‑induced rainfall deficits as well as to strengthen their livelihoods resilience against below-average rainfall forecasts.
