No results found.Foot-and-mouth Disease (FMD) remains the first transboundary animal disease (TAD) threat to European livestock production. A single introduction usually has extremely serious, and frequently catastrophic, impacts. The European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD), under a framework of co-ordination with EC (DG-SANTE), FAO and OIE, as played a significant role in reducing the risk and ensuring better preparedness. Partly as a result of this, the EU has not had, for the first time in its history, an outbreak of FMD case for the past ten years. In this time the EuFMD has established an internationally respected capacity for efficient delivery of training and in-country support to FMD Progressive Control Programmes, and most recently, in modelling of FMD control measures to guide emergency planning. The HOLD-FAST strategy continues the focus upon FMD risk reduction but extends the scope of the preparedness and risk reduction activities to similar TADs which pose an immediate threat to the Member Nations (hereafter FAST is used for FMD and similar TADs). -

No results found.This guide is intended to be used by veterinary contingency planners in foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) free countries. The concepts presented can also be adapted to other animal health threats. The guide provides recommendations for the structure and content of an emergency vaccination plan, once the decision to vaccinate has been made, and the vaccination strategy has been decided.It does not include any consideration of the decision-making process on if, when and how to proceed with vaccination. The plan should be adapted to the context and requirements of the country. The guide has been drafted based on the outcome of two European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD) workshops on “Putting vaccination into Practice” held in Grange, Ireland from 13 to 16 March 2017, and in Malaga, Spain from 19 to 22 March 2019. The workshops identified the key elements required for the development of an emergency vaccination implementation plan. Further information has been included to extend the guide to all aspects of an emergency vaccination plan. -

No results found.In 2019 The European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD) contracted the Royal Veterinary College, University of London (RVC) to conduct a research study that aimed to better understand the role of VPPs in the control of FAST. The outputs of this study were expected to guide the EuFMD in developing training strategies for VPPs. A mixed methods approach was used that included analysis of current numbers and distribution of veterinarians and VPPs, a literature review, a survey, key informant interviews and qualitative field studies conducted in Nepal and Tanzania.
