Synopsis (short abstract) The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) develops and promotes international standards and guidelines on conducting agricultural censuses. FAO, through its agricultural census team, provides countries with technical assistance and capacity building to support the production and dissemination of relevant, sound, harmonized and internationally comparable structural data on agriculture. This flyer gives a snapshot of FAO’s work and activities in this domain.

    The FAOSTAT domain Structural data from agricultural censuses was launched in 2022 to disseminate data collected in national censuses of agriculture at the agricultural holding level. The censuses of agriculture are conducted under FAO’s World Programme for the Census of Agriculture (WCA), which is a decennial programme. The 2024 update of the FAOSTAT domain presenting structural data from agricultural censuses features data for 30 additional countries for the WCA 2020 round, new data from earlier rounds for 26 countries and territories, and data adjustments for 83 countries.
