Brochure, flyer, fact-sheetEstablishing global phytosanitary research coordination 2024
Also available in:
No results found. The 17th session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures approved in 2023 the establishment of a global phytosanitary research coordination mechanism. This will allow regular identification of common plant health research priorities, to eliminate duplication of research activities and to facilitate the efficient use of financial and human resources. -
BookletField survey guidance for Rhynchophorus ferrugineus 2025
Also available in:
No results found. This field survey guidance provides easy-to-follow guidelines for technical personnel of national plant protection organizations (NPPOs) to survey Rhynchophorus ferrugineus, a key pest commonly known as red palm weevil. This field survey guidance provides a protocol to aid in the monitoring, detection, sample collection and identification of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus, ensuring effective phytosanitary decision-making to manage the pest risk and protect trade in plants and plant products. It also provides visuals and guidance on recommended pest traps. This guidance complements the digital tools available to NPPO plant health inspectors through the Africa Phytosanitary Programme (APP) mobile applications and Geographic Information System (GIS) platforms. APP is an initiative of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), designed to transform pest management across Africa by enhancing the capabilities of phytosanitary personnel within NPPOs, to leverage advanced science and modern digital technology for effective and timely pest surveillance, detection, identification, control, and prevention. Some of the countries involved in APP listed Rhynchophorus ferrugineus as a priority pest, requiring effective pest surveillance. -
Brochure, flyer, fact-sheetAssessing and managing climate-change impacts on plant health 2024
Also available in:
No results found. The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) sets forth in its Strategic Framework 2020-2030, eight development agenda items to achieve its objectives. One of these agenda items is assessing and managing the impacts of climate change on plant pests. Climate change has had an increasing impact on the health of plants and agricultural crops while rising temperatures have enabled plant pests to establish in previously uninhabitable areas. IPPC is working to raise awareness of these issues, as well as enhancing the evaluation and management of risks of climate change to plant health. IPPC is also working to enhance the recognition of phytosanitary matters in the international climate change debate. This brochure serves as a resource mobilization tool to sustain these initiatives and achieve the objectives of these development agenda items.
