Since the escalation of hostilities on 8 October 2023, Lebanon has faced a devastating humanitarian crisis, with 3 287 people killed and 14 222 injured, including hundreds of women and children. The conflict has displaced over 878,497 individuals, more than half of whom are women. Healthcare infrastructure has been severely impacted, with 103 attacks on medical facilities and 145 health workers killed. Airstrikes have caused extensive destruction, particularly in southern Lebanon and Bekaa, targeting civilian shelters and hospitals. The crisis has exacerbated food insecurity, disrupted education, and heightened protection risks, especially for vulnerable populations. Over 300,000 people require urgent nutrition and early childhood services. Additionally, the conflict has caused significant damage to private property and public infrastructure. Fires ignited by explosive projectiles have ravaged 2 192 hectares of agricultural land and killed over 340,000 livestock, including poultry, cattle, and beehives. In response, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in partnership with Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture, conducted a Rapid Needs Assessment in November 2024. The assessment aimed to evaluate the conflict’s impact on agricultural livelihoods, reporting on extensive damage to crops, livestock, and food production systems.

Chad: Impact of conflict and displacement on agricultural livelihoods and food security in eastern Chad, February 2025 2025
    Also available in:

In February 2025, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations' (FAO) Data in Emergencies (DIEM) conducted an assessment in the eastern provinces of Chad (Ouaddaï, Sila and Wadi Fira) to analyse the impact of conflict and displacement on agricultural livelihoods and food security. The analysis is based on qualitative and quantitative data collected from 5 257 permanent residents, and 363 Chadian refugee and returnee households. FAO's DIEM-Impact provides rapid and detailed analyses of the effects of major crises on agriculture, combining various sources of information: primary and secondary data, remote sensing, damage and loss assessment methodology, among others. This assessment sheds light on the food insecurity situation in a context of high vulnerability and supports evidence-based planning.

Marked by more than forty years of conflict, the province of Ituri, in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has experienced massive population displacement and recurrent violence. The basic needs of the population, notably access to food and agriculture, have been seriously impacted, harming the quality of life and worsening food insecurity. The goal of the Data in Emergencies team at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations was to assess the impact of decades of violence on agriculture, food security and livelihoods in Ituri, and to propose recommendations for programming.
