In light of the endorsement of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT), this Information Brief aims to provide concise and practical elements for a gender-equitable governance of tenure of land, fisheries and forests. Developed jointly with the FAO study The Right to Food and the Responsible Governance of Tenure: A dialogue towards implementation, this Information Brief offers a right to food perspective on a crucial governance matter for the implementation of the VGGT. Besides underlining the importance of some VGGT provisions for the realization of the right to food, Gender-equitable Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests: A Right to Food Perspective presents some of its benefits through lessons learned as well as internationally agreed upon and committed to basis for its implementation.

Effective policy and legal advice requires a clear understanding of the gaps and discrepancies in the policies and legislation pertaining to gender and land. This paper introduces a Legal Assessment Tool (LAT) for gender-equitable land tenure, developed under the Gender and Land Rights Database (GLRD) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), for the purpose of providing prompt, targeted and effective policy and legal advice to countries working towards gender-equitab le land tenure. It describes the main features of a tool specifically designed to measure the extent to which the legal framework fosters gender-equitable land tenure and provides the results from the application of the LAT to three African countries – Sierra Leone, Madagascar and Morocco. It further reflects on the added value of such a tool in the broader context of rural development and poverty alleviation, with a special focus on the implementation of the VGGTs.

Land banks are proposed as a policy strategy to transform underutilized land into productive assets, addressing land access inequalities and fostering food security in the Caribbean. These institutions redistribute land for agriculture purposes, aiming to revitalize rural economies and promote sustainable development.Pilot programs in Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, supported by the FAO, highlight their potential to enhance agricultural practices and tenure security. However, successful implementation requires addressing challenges such as limited available land, outdated legislation, and institutional weaknesses. With robust government support and inclusive stakeholder engagement, land banks could play a pivotal role in strengthening food systems and advancing sustainable agriculture across the region.

FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 2022
The FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 was endorsed by FAO Council in June 2022. This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.
