dc.description.abstract The growing demand for food is increasing the pressure on land and water resources globally. By 2050, global agriculture will need to produce almost 50 percent more food, feed and biofuel than it did in 2012 to meet global demand. To meet this demand, stakeholders from around the world must ensure the sustainable management of land, soil and water, which is essential to maintaining the productivity and resilience of agrifood systems. During his visit to the Kingdom of Thailand in early 2024, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Qu Dongyu, proposed the establishment of an International Soil and Water Forum to serve as a global platform to raise awareness and collectively identify solutions for sustainable land, soil and water management as fundamental for achieving food security and the SDGs. International Soil and Water Forum 2024 is a 3-day event from December 9-11, 2024, and will feature Ministerial Dialogues and a variety of plenary sessions, in addition to thematic, side and special/partner events dedicated to specific themes within the intersection of land, soil, and water in the changing climate. This information note offers background information and logistics for attendees.
