    FAO China ECTAD Highlights in September 2018 - Ms Yu Qi and Dr Han Zifeng from FAO China Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Office participated in the Regional Workshop of the Third Regional Technical Consultation on Zoonotic Influenza Surveillance in Asia in Bangkok, Thailand from 10-13 September 2018. The four-day Workshop brought together more than 40 participants from FAO headquarters, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) and eight country offices. -The fifth module of the fourth cohort of the China Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (CFETPV) was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province from 10-20 September 2018. The two-week training was attended by 26 trainees from 16 provincial and municipal animal health agencies, one university and two national research institutes. It was the final module of the fourth cohort and aimed to help the trainees to strengthen and integrate the knowledge of veterinary epidemiology learnt in the past two years. -China Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (CFETPV) fourth cohort Graduation Ceremony and the sixth CFETPV Annual Seminar were held in Qingdao, Shandong Province on 21 September 2018. Dr Ma Hongchao, Director General of China Animal Health and Epidemiology Center (CAHEC), attended the ceremony and gave a speech on behalf of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA). Teacher representative, Prof Dirk Pfeiffer and trainee representative, Mr Hu Mingming were also invited to share their achievements gained from the training.

    FAO China ECTAD Highlights in March 2019:1)The first module of the fifth cohort of China Field Epidemiology Training Programme for Veterinarians (CFETPV) was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province from 4-29 March 2019. 20 trainees (8 female, 12 male) from national (4), provincial (9) and municipal (7) levels animal health agencies were selected from the Introductory Course to complete the two-year CFETPV, which is consisted of five different modules and relevant assignments;2)The 2019 Annual Regional Meeting for Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Regional Programme for Asia and the Pacific (AREM) was held in Phuket, Thailand from 6-8 March 2019. Mr Liu Lushi, Ms Ma Yuanyuan and Ms Yu Qi from FAO China ECTAD participated in the meeting;3)The global elimination of dog transmitted human rabies was set for 2030 “ZERO BY 30”. In order to review the global framework for the elimination of dog-mediated human rabies, evaluate the current rabies status in China, especially in the provinces with high rabies burden, generate an overall Stepwise Approach to Rabies Elimination (SARE) score at provincial and national levels, develop plans towards effective and sustainable dog rabies elimination, identify short/long term priority activities, and establish measure strategies for monitoring progress internally and with other rabies control partners, a SARE Workshop in China was jointly organized by Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), China Animal Disease Control Center (CADC) and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) in Beijing from 25-28 March 2019.

    FAO China ECTAD Highlights in December 2018: 1) The Introductory Course of the fifth cohort of the China Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (CFETPV) was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province from 19 November to 14 December 2018. 44 selected applicants out of 80 from the national, provincial and municipal animal health agencies and university were trained under this course. The four-week introductory course aimed to prepare the participants with basic veterinary epidemiology concepts that will be useful to apply in the daily work to prevent and control the disease. 2) A Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Backstopping Seminar was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province from 24-25 December 2018. The seminar was organized by FAO Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) and delivered by the regional M&E expert, Mr Frank Pumipuntu. Mr Liu Lushi and Dr Han Zifeng participated in the seminar on behalf of FAO China ECTAD Office.
