This methodology was developed to contribute to the improvement of the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme's legal work. It helps to review the extent to which the national legal framework implements and enforces the most relevant international and regional binding instruments (conventions, agreements, etc.) for the sustainable management of wildlife. The SWM Programme is an initiative of the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS), which is funded by the European Union (EU) and co-financed by the French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) and the French Development Agency (AFD). This methodology was developed to contribute to the improvement of the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme's legal work. It helps conducting an analysis on the coherence and potential legal gaps of the national legal framework in the different sectors governing the meat and fish value chains, both farmed and wild, as well as in other sectors relating to wildlife, such as ecotourism. The SWM Programme is an initiative of the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS), which is funded by the European Union (EU) and co-financed by the French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) and the French Development Agency (AFD). This document provides a detailed mapping of the legal framework of interest and allows an overview of its structure. This facilitates the identification of potential obstacles to legal certainty including the ambiguity of repealing provisions, the lack of mechanisms to implement policies and/or laws as well as the existence of obsolete normative texts. The use of the tool is the preliminary step to any in-depth analysis of statutory law. The analyses will be carried out based on the other Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme legal diagnostic tools, namely for reviewing domestication of international conventions, assessing strengths and weaknesses of the national legal framework, and assessing the enforcement and implementation of wildlife-related legislation. The Near East and North Africa Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition warns that the Arab region remains off-track to meet the food security and nutrition targets of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.In 2023, 66.1 million people, approximately 14 percent of the population in the Arab region, faced hunger. The report highlights that access to adequate food remains elusive for millions. Around 186.5 million people – 39.4 percent of the population – faced moderate or severe food insecurity, an increase of 1.1 percentage points from the previous year. Alarmingly, 72.7 million people experienced severe food insecurity. -

No results found.Between 2 and 17 January 2024, following a request by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MoA&F), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in close cooperation with the Food Security Technical Secretariat (FSTS) and the State Ministries of Agriculture, carried out its annual Crop and Food Supply Assessment Mission (CFSAM) to estimate the 2023 crop production and assess the food supply situation throughout the 18 states of the country. The report's recommendations are to provide immediate response to the needs of the population most affected by acute food insecurity as well as to support the recovery of the agriculture sector, increasing food production and farmers’ incomes, and enhancing efficiency along the value chain to reduce production costs. -
