    This technology describes utilizing rooftop water harvesting facilities to increase the availability of water for domestic use and irrigation of backyard tomato gardens. This measure allows small-scale farmers to harvest rainwater from roofs and store it in tanks, ensuring tomato production also during the dry season, when it would be otherwise impossible. The combination of rainwater harvesting with other good practices (e.g. staking, mulching, manuring) help increase productivity while reducing soil erosion, eventually strengthening the resilience of farmers to the impact of dry spells.

    The impact of natural hazards on the agriculture sector can be devastating. To reduce the effects of climate change, farmers use strategies to counter effect the influence of a natural disaster. For example saving rooftop rainwater can help during draught, and mulching help maintain soil moisture. In this good practice, first, steps and requirements for rainwater collection are explained. Building on water harvesting, drip irrigation system is explained which is crucial for water saving during irrigation in the dry seasons. Third, mulching methods are described. Mulching is a technique that is used to cover and to keep soil moisture for a better plant growth, and finally a cost-benefit analysis of their combined application is presented.
