dc.description.abstract Unsafe food causes considerable morbidity and mortality. More than 200 diseases are spread through food contaminated with bacteria, viruses, parasites, natural toxins, pesticides, and chemical or radioactive substances. It is crucial to detect and prevent spread of food safety hazards early. This is why FAO is supporting East African countries to strengthen their food safety early warning systems.
