Synopsis (short abstract) This document is the final report of the thirteenth session of the Committee for Inland Fisheries of Africa (CIFA), which was held in Entebbe, Uganda, from 27 to 30 October 2004. The major topics discussed were: reports of intersessional activities; co-management arrangements as vehicles to responsible fisheries in the inland waters of Africa, strategies/mechanisms for improved reporting on inland capture fisheries and aquaculture; opportunities for, and requirements of a NACA-like mechanism in Africa; elements of technical guidelines for the control and responsible use of alien species in fisheries and aquaculture: key issues and opportunities for Africa; evolution of aquaculture in Sub-Saharan Africa; current economic opportunities in aquaculture in Sub-Saharan Africa; management of shared inland fisheries resources in sub-Saharan Africa; and proposals for the major topics for discussion at the fourteenth session of CIFA.

    This document is the final report of the Eighth Session of the Committee for Inland Fisheries of Africa, which was held in Cairo, Egypt, from 21 to 25 October 1990. Major topics discussed were: post-harvest fish technology, prospect and trends of African Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture towards the year 2000, intersessional activities, progress in the implementation of the Strategy and Programmes of Action of the FAO World Conference on Fisheries Management and Development, review of the FAO Field Programme 1988/89 in the region, collaboration with organizations concerned with inland fisheries development in Africa, and the main subject for discussion at future sessions of the Committee.     This document is the final report of the twelfth session of the Committee for Inland Fisheries of Africa, held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from 2 to 5 December 2002. Major topics discussed were: reports of some intersessional activities; interactions between inland capture fisheries and aquaculture and their contribution to food security and poverty alleviation in sub-Saharan Africa; and promoting the implementation of the international codes of practice for the responsible use of alien and genetically modified aquatic species in African fisheries and aquaculture. A seminar was also held on the African experience in commercial aquaculture and community involvement in fisheries management.
