No results found.The eleventh Session of the Coordinating Working Party on Atlantic Fishery Statistics (CWP), conscious of the fact that source and reference documents related to the concepts and definitions used in fishery statistics are widely dispersed and not always readily available, proposed in 1982 that a “Handbook of Fishery Statistics” should be brought together. The content of the present publication, renamed “CWP Handbook of Fishery Statistical Standards”, is largely based on the 1990 edition but in a ddition to extensive revisions concerning CWP memberships, and relevant modifications to commissions’ statistical work, has been expanded to cover descriptions of the existing major fishing areas in the Atlantic, Indian, Pacific and Antarctic Oceans, and presents also eight new Sections on fishery related subjects. The CWP Handbook now covers all the intended range of fishery statistical concepts, definitions and classifications. -

This fact sheet presents and overview on current gender equality and women’s empowerment issues in the fisheries sector. The engagement of women in fisheries can be seen from different perspectives, from social and political to economic and technical views; all these areas evidence that the role of women has been underestimated. The paper provides information on policy, institutions and planning processes; statistics dimension in gender analysis, specific concerns in the field of fisheries indus tries; and identifies lessons learned as well as opportunities for gender mainstreaming at macro, meso and micro operational levels. It suggests some relevant approaches to continue striving efforts, made over the last decades, upon recognition of women’s crucial role in the society and to promote sustainable and equitable fisheries and aquaculture development. -

Following the IPOA's introduction, the nature and scope of IUU fishing is addressed. This is followed by the IPOA's objective and principles and the implementation of measures to prevent, deter and eliminate IUU fishing. These measures focus on all State responsibilities, flag State responsibilities, coastal State measures, port State measures, internationally agreed market-related measures, resear ch and regional fisheries management organizations. Special requirements of developing countries are then considered, followed by reporting requirements and the role of FAO.
