The project contributed to sustainable peace, development and inclusive growth in Mindanao. It aimed to improve agriculture- and fisheries-based livelihoods and accelerate agriculture enterprises. The project had a three-fold objective: improve the productivity of small farmers, marginal fisherfolk, Indigenous Peoples and internally displaced persons; integrate these populations into agriculture value chains; and increase the resilience of farming and fishing livelihoods against multiple hazards through disaster risk reduction and management tools. The project planned various forms of assistance for the beneficiaries: strengthen farmer groups and organizations; identify improved technologies across value chains and markets for added value; and establish partnerships and appropriate business arrangements. It aimed to support 10 740 poor farming and fishing households in the targeted areas, 40 percent of which involved women. The project covered various provinces in the south of the country, namely Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur and Cotabato.

The “Regional Fish Spawning Aggregation Fishery Management Plan: Focus on Nassau grouper and Mutton snapper” (FSAMP) was developed by the Fish Spawning Aggregation WECAFC working group. It is the outcome of a decade of dedicated work to significantly improve fishery management to stop and reverse the declines associated with uncontrolled exploitation of vulnerable fish spawning aggregations. Spawning aggregations, the only known means of reproduction of Nassau grouper (NG, Epinephelus striatus) and Mutton snapper (MS, Lutjanus analis), are essential for the long-term replenishment and productivity of their natural populations.

The World Soil Day is clebrated by the global community of 60 000 soil scientists and the GSP Secretariat has the mandate of communicating soil knowledge and reaching out to a large audience as stipulated in the UN resolution (A/RES/68/232 on the World Soil Day). The promotion of communication material for the WSD campaign can support achieving different FAO strategic objectives, in particular advocacy for making agriculture more productive and sustainable (SO2) and sharing information on increasing resilience of livelihoods from disasters (SO3).
