Synopsis (short abstract) The Bhutan Rural and Digital Finance Ecosystem Assessment 2024 was jointly conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Bhutan Development Bank Limited (BDBL) under FAO’s Hand-in-Hand Initiative. The assessment is part of a regional project to improve inclusive rural financial systems in five Asia-Pacific countries.It responds to challenges in rural Bhutan, including poverty, limited access to finance and markets, gender and digital gaps, and climate vulnerability. The report examines the current rural and digital financial services landscape, identifies key constraints, and offers strategies for a more inclusive system aligned with Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan. The assessment was led by APRACA with BAAC Thailand, following a 2023 field mission. It included stakeholder consultations and a literature review, and its findings were presented during an investment roundtable in October 2024.

    The significance of industrial processing for the nature of food and the state of human health - and in particular the techniques and ingredients developed by modern food science and technology - is generally underestimated. This is evident in both national and international policies and strategies designed to improve populations' nutrition and health. Until recently it has also been neglected in epidemiological and experimental studies concerning diet, nutrition and health. This report seeks to assess the impact of ultra-processed food on diet quality and health, based on NOVA, a food classification system developed by researchers at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

    La présente norme donne aux organisations nationales de la protection des végétaux (ONPV) des pays importateurs des critères sur les modalités de classification des marchandises selon le risque phytosanitaire qu’elles présentent du point de vue des exigences à l’importation. Cette classification en catégories devrait aider à identifier si l’on a besoin ou non d’une analyse ultérieure du risque phytosanitaire et si une certification phytosanitaire est nécessaire. On opère une première étape de la classification selon que la marchandise est transformée ou non et, dans l’affirmative, selon la méthode et le degré de transformation à laquelle la marchandise a été soumise avant l’exportation. On opère la deuxième étape de la classification des marchandises selon l’usage qui en est prévu après l’importation. Les organismes nuisibles contaminants ou les organismes nuisibles présents dans les entrepôts qui peuvent s’associer à la marchandise après la transformation ne sont pas pris en compte dans la présente norme.
