dc.description.abstract The directions of development of innovativeness in forestry have been presented, having a direct and indirect impact on changes in the intensity of functions performed by forests and the selection of paths for their further development. The implementation of the assumed paths of forest and forestry development depends to a large extent on the adopted political solutions. The study provides an analysis of the principles of sustainable development, the role, location and importance of forests and forestry, and selected mechanisms and consequences of changes in the management of forest ecosystem resources. The research results allow identifying those areas of current knowledge and applied solutions in forestry, which require additions as well as new solutions. The innovativeness of forestry in various areas of activity should closely cooperate with multiple economic sectors and branches of science, stimulating the introduction of new products. Forestry should intensively develop an innovative platform for both new solutions and methods of maintaining the natural order of things in nature, including references to the social value chain. Strong forestry relationships with the wood industry require stimulation of innovative solutions in the broader use of wood, which is associated with the need to ensure timber supply. New forest management systems should find solutions that increase the economic benefits resulting from forests performing ecosystem services, which have not yet had a monetary valuation. Scientific research combining knowledge in the field of ecology and economics is fundamental, facilitating the construction of scenarios for the spatial development of forests and forestry.
