Book (stand-alone)Technical reportReport of the Fourteenth session of the Fisheries and Resources Monitoring System (FIRMS) Steering Committee meeting, Denmark, Copenhagen (Hybrid meeting), 30 June, 1 and 4 July 2025 2026

No results found. The Fourteenth Session of the FIRMS Steering Committee (FSC14) focused on strategic enhancements to global fisheries status reporting, and welcoming the Bay of Bengal Programme (BOBP-IGO) as a new Partner to expand its regional coverage. A primary outcome was the review of the updated FAO State of Stocks Index (SoSI), which features a new methodology based on B/Bmsy indicators. Partners committed to biennial data calls and timely reporting for future SoSI editions. Significant progress was reported across core FIRMS products: the Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries (GRSF) advanced its database and implemented UUIDs for SoSI support, while the Global Tuna Atlas (GTA) achieved harmonization with major tRFMOs, leading to a new annual data call. FSC14 also prioritized consistency by adopting new terminologies and encouraging partners to map their indicators to the SoSI thresholds (Overfished, Maximally Fished, Underfished). Looking forward, the Committee established a dedicated Working Group to develop guidelines for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within FIRMS. -

No results found. The Thirteenth Session of the Fisheries and Resources Monitoring System (FIRMS) Steering Committee (FSC13) was held in London, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (Hybrid meeting) on 26–27 and 30 June 2023. Driven by a survey on the use of FIRMS by partners and relevant institutions, the FSC13 deliberated strategic decisions for the next decade, including the timely data provision in support to the FAO SOFIA State of Stocks (SoS), the contribution to the design and reporting on fisheries management in context of the new FAO COFI sub-committee on fisheries, prioritizing the strengthening of small-scale fisheries data collection, and fostering interoperability among partners’ databases. Along those key decisions, FSC13 agreed for further work on the FIRMS Global Tuna Atlas (GTA), on the Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries (GRSF) and on FIRMS standards and terminologies for which several definitions were reviewed and approved. A workplan was elaborated to address all decisions made by FSC13 covering also the upgrade of the FIRMS system and the support to capacity building to FIRMS Partners.
