ProjectDeveloping Capacity in Agriculture, Commercialization, Nutrition Education and Disaster Management in the Gambia - UTF/GAM/029/GAM 2020
Also available in:
No results found. The agriculture sector is critical to the national economy of the Gambia, accounting for 28 percent of the gross domestic product and serving as an important source of food and income for the population. Despite being identified as a priority area in national policy and programmes, the sector has seen limited advancement due to technical and organizational capacity deficits in agricultural practices and commercialization efforts, as well as economic constraints both in terms of funding access and sectoral investment. As a result, the food security and nutrition of the Gambian population remain susceptible to shocks and disasters, particularly for the rural poor and children. In addition, women continue to face the challenge of inequitable access to information, inputs and services, despite their central role in food production. The project was therefore designed to address capacity gaps in the agriculture sector, in nutrition education and in disaster risk mitigation. -
