2019This analysis aims to summarize the views submitted on KJWA topics 2(b) and 2(c) that were discussed during the SB 50 in June 2019, namely: Topic 2(b) - Methods and approaches for assessing adaptation, adaptation co-benefits and resilience; and Topic 2(c) - Improved soil carbon, soil health and soil fertility under grassland and cropland as well as integrated systems, including water management. The analysis intends to make the wide range of views submitted more easily accessible to those interested, including to Parties and observers to the UNFCCC, but also experts working on climate change more generally, as well as interested members of the public. -

The analysis intends to make the wide range of views submitted more easily accessible to those interested, including to Parties and observers to the UNFCCC, but also experts working on climate change more generally, as well as interested members of the public.

2019The Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture (KJWA) was established in November 2017, as a new process to advance discussions on issues related to agriculture under the two Subsidiary Bodies (SBs) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC): the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI). The decision recognizes the fundamental importance of agriculture in responding to climate change, and calls for joint work between the SBs on specific elements, including through workshops and expert meetings.This analysis aims to summarize the views submitted on KJWA topic 2(a): Modalities for implementation of the outcomes of the five insession workshops on issues related to agriculture and other future topics that may arise from the joint work on agriculture. The summary intends to make the wide range of views submitted more easily accessible to those interested – including Parties and observers to the UNFCCC, but also FAO staff working on climate change as well the public. The analysis takes into consideration the 17 submissions by Parties and the 14 by observers on topic 2(a) of the KJWA, submitted on KJWA topic 2(a) by 10 December 2018.

No results found.Due to the growing world population, it is estimated that global food production will need to increase by 60 percent to feed over 9.5 billion people by 2050. Worldwide, the livelihood of 2.5 billion people depend on agriculture. These small-scale farmers, herders, fishers and forest-dependent communities generate more than half of the global agricultural production and are particularly at risk from disasters that destroy or damage harvests, equipment, supplies, livestock, seeds, crops and stored food. Disasters and crises don’t just have immediate, short-term effects – they undermine livelihoods and national development gains that have taken years to build. As the agnitude and impact of crises and disasters increases – aggravated by the overexploitation of natural resources – more and more households, communities and governments of developing countries are less able to absorb, recover and adapt, making them more vulnerable to future shocks. -

No results found.The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018. -

No results found.The Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture (KJWA) was established at COP23 to address six topics in the agricultural sector's role in climate change. KJWA has contributed to sharing scientific and technical knowledge, but limitations remain in translating outcomes into concrete climate actions. The new four-year joint work on the implementation of climate action on agriculture and food security, which prioritizes ending hunger and considers national circumstances, includes the creation of an online portal for sharing information. The four-year agenda is shaped and broadened through the submission of views by parties, observers, and civil society and will be considered by SBSTA and SBI in June 2023.
