Synopsis (short abstract) The objective of this project, funded by the Spanish Cooperation, is to improve food security and livelihoods of the vulnerable communities in Maan and Karak Governorates, while contributing to water conservation through sustainable management. It also aims to empower local rural communities especially those suffering from poverty through capacity building and tool provision.The project outcome will enhance food security for the most vulnerable beneficiaries through adopting climate-smart agricultural practices, and enhance livelihoods for the most vulnerable beneficiaries through improving the knowledge and the capacities of the beneficiaries on natural resources sustainable utilization.يهدف هذا المشروع، الممول من قبل التعاون الإسباني الى تحسين الأمن الغذائي وسبل العيش للمجتمعات الأقل حظا في محافظتي معان والكرك، مع المساهمة في الحفاظ على المياه من خلال الإدارة المستدامة. ويهدف أيضًا إلى تمكين المجتمعات الريفية المحلية وخاصة تلك التي تعاني من الفقر من خلال بناء القدرات وتوفير الأدوات.وستعمل مخرجات المشروع على تعزيز الأمن الغذائي للمستفيدين الأكثر ضعفا من خلال اعتماد ممارسات زراعية ذكية مناخيا، وتعزيز سبل العيش للمستفيدين الأكثر ضعفا من خلال تحسين معارف وقدرات المستفيدين بشأن الاستخدام المستدام للموارد الطبيعية.

    Jordan is one of the most water scarce countries in the world and climate change is threatening the livelihoods of thousands of people who depend on agriculture for their well-being. Climate change induced hazards such as droughts, extreme temperatures and flash floods have almost tripled in the country since the 1980s, compared to a doubling worldwide, exposing the population to loss of life, livelihoods and property. This factsheet will give the reader a breief about this project, valued at USD 33.25 million, which specifically targets four Governorates in the Dead Sea Basin – Karak, Madaba, Talifah and Ma’an – which are particularly vulnerable to climate change and climate-induced water stress. The 840 900 inhabitants of these areas are heavily dependent on rainfed agriculture, have high poverty rates among the rural population, and have insufficient know-how and resources to adapt to a changing climate.     The reader of this publication will be able to know more about this project, which is funded by the Government of Italy through AICS, and its overall goal which is to improve the efficiency of the value chain of agricultural products and food commodities and enhance food security and livelihoods of 200 households of host communities and Syrian Refugees in Balqaa, Jerash, and Ajloun, where targeted households will benefit from developing their skills to generate self-employment, increase their income and support their families in nutritional activities.The project also addresses the needs of Syrian refugees and beneficiaries from the Jordanian host communities by promoting self-reliance and providing them with the "know-how" and business skills required in agri-food production.     The project aims at addressing the pressing challenges of climate change and natural resource crises in refugee hotspot areas of Northern Jordan. The project, titled “Emergency response to climate change and natural resource crises in refugee hotspots in Jordan,” focuses on disaster risk reduction, community-based solutions, and forest rehabilitation.The project will be implemented in Zaatari Refugee Camp, Ajloun, and Jerash governorates, targeting 150 beneficiaries, including Syrian refugees and host community members.
