While the range of topics discussed is relevant to all countries, where possible a greater focus has been given to low- and middle-income country contexts. STEP 2 (this paper) sets out some channels to advance this agenda by improving the enabling environment – the policies, incentives, rules and regulations that shape behaviours (and enable good practice). Though governments lead in this area, there are clear responsibilities for all stakeholders. -

No results found.This paper, STEP 3, is the third of three background papers produced to inform the ‘Everyone Around the Table: FAO/GAIN Roundtable with Private Sector on Healthy Diets’ series of virtual roundtables which took place in July 2020. As in STEP 1 and STEP 2, the topics covered are relevant to all regions, but where possible a greater focus has been given to low- and middle-income countries. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are again a focus, given their role in the food systems of these regions (see STEP 1 for more detail), including their common presence in the food environments of many people living in poverty. STEP 3 (this paper) looks more closely at what it means to go to scale with healthy diets and better nutrition, providing examples and reflections for all stakeholders to consider. -

No results found.This is the first of three background papers produced to inform the series of three virtual roundtables entitled ‘Stepping up: Everyone Around the Table for Better Nutrition and Sustainable Healthy Diets: FAO/GAIN Roundtables with the Private Sector on Healthy Diets’ which took place in July-2020. These papers and roundtables are intended to highlight current understandings, gaps and misconceptions about engaging with businesses in the food system. Together with all stakeholders we hope to identify paths leading to healthy diets for everyone, everywhere. STEP 1 (this paper) unpacks the role of the private sector, especially of SMEs, in sustainably nourishing the world. It reinforces the growing consensus that food systems, and the SME activities within them, must be transformed by stakeholders from all sectors.

No results found.FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) is one of the mechanisms to respond to countries’ most pressing needs for technical assistance and effectively pursue the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2019 Report of the Technical Cooperation Programme introduces a new series of annual reports that provide FAO Members, governments, donors, beneficiaries and other stakeholders with evidence of the impact of the work carried out by FAO through the TCP. Prepared by the Outreach, Marketing and Reporting Unit (PSRR), in close collaboration with the TCP Coordination Unit in the Office of the Assistant Director-General (ADG-PS), the first in the series presents and assesses the achievements and catalytic role of TCP-funded projects. Based on a review of the TCP projects operationally closed during 2018 and interviews with lead technical officers, technical officers at FAO headquarters, budget holders and FAO country representatives, the report provides details on the characteristics, typical interventions and results of the programme, and features a select number of in-depth stories to highlight the tangible and lasting results of the programme’s catalytic work. -

This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.
