Synopsis (short abstract) An "FAO expert consultation on nutrition education for the public" met in Rome, Italy, from 18 to 22 September 1995. The work of this consultation was built upon a long history of commitment to nutrition education by the Food and Nutrition Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The report of the Joint FAO/WHO Committee on Nutrition in 1950 was the first to emphasize nutrition education. In 1958, the same expert committee considered education to b e "a necessary part of practical programmes to improve human nutrition" .
