RESPUESTA A LOS NUEVOS DESAFÍOS
2003En este documento se presenta la evolución del Programa Especial para la Seguridad Alimentaria (PESA) durante los últimos ocho años. Se observa que el PESA ha mantenido un carácter experimental en casi todos los países (más de 70) donde se aplica. No obstante, el documento destaca que recientemente ha aumentado el número de países en desarrollo que están preparándose para emprender programas de seguridad alimentaria en todo su territorio, de conformidad con los compromisos que reafirmaron en la Cumbre Mundial sobre la Alimentación: cinco años después. Esta nueva generación de proyectos del PESA, que comprende todas las actividades recomendadas en el Programa de lucha contra el hambre, está solicitando más servicios de la Organización. El documento indica cómo podría la FAO responder a esas solicitudes en colaboración con otras instituciones empeñadas en erradicar el hambre. -

The 2023 edition of the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean presents an update of the data and trends in food security and nutrition in recent years. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis and the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the economic slowdown, rising food inflation and income inequality have had an impact on regional figures. The most recent data shows that, between 2021 and 2022, progress was made in reducing hunger and food insecurity in Latin America and the Caribbean. However, the progress achieved is far from the targets established to meet SDG 2 of ending hunger. In addition, one in five people in the region cannot access a healthy diet and malnutrition in all its forms, including child stunting, micronutrient deficiencies and obesity continue to be a major challenge. -
