Synopsis (short abstract) Land cover data is vital in understanding livelihoods, food security and both exposure and sensitivity to climatic risks. Land cover data for the Red River Delta is presented to support the GEF-8 Clean and Healthy Oceans Integrated Programme (IP). The overarching aim of the IP is to mitigate coastal pollution from agricultural, industrial, and municipal sources. Therefore, land cover data is crucial in understanding potential sources of pollution across the river basin.

    Land cover data is fundamental to food security. Land cover information is required to monitor food security indicators, and provide information on access to water, cropping intensities and many others. Land cover for Sindh province is obtained in the context of GEF–8 projects from the national land cover of Pakistan (2021). The main aim of the GEF–8 project is to transform rice fields to improve the region’s food security.

    Land cover data is fundamental to food security. Land cover information is required to monitor food security indicators, and provide information on access to water, cropping intensities and many others. Land cover for eastern Bhutan (2022) was obtained by training a machine learning model and classifying (Planet & Sentinel–1) imageries in GEE. The legend for Bhutan was obtained from ICIMOD (2010). The main aim of the GEF–8 project is to transform rice fields to improve the region’s food security.
