No results found.This issue of ASFA Magazine celebrates the launch of OpenASFA and highlights other information sources and partnerships, including the FIRMS Partnership and AquaDocs repository. OpenASFA is the new system for creating, recording and exporting ASFA records that will help revolutionise how ASFA contributes to the dissemination of fisheries and aquaculture research. This issue also updates on the work to improve the ASFA Subject Thesaurus. Since joining AGROVOC as a sub-vocabulary, ASFA is pleased to see non-English language coverage of the ASFA thesaurus increase thanks to the efforts of its multilingual partners. Lastly, ASFA launches a survey to understand the career outcomes and any real or perceived barriers experienced by information professionals working in aquatic sciences, fisheries and aquaculture. The survey is designed to show whether gender has any impact on career outcomes and barriers. ASFA Secretariat will share the results of the survey in the next issue. -

No results found.This issue of the Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) magazine has a regional focus on Africa and features contributions from ASFA Partners in Benin, Guinea, Kenya, Nigeria, Tunisia and Uganda. For almost fifty years, the ASFA Partnership has worked to promote and disseminate aquatic science, fisheries and aquaculture research and this issue highlights the work of institutions in Africa to achieve this goal. A broad range of information management activities and projects being undertaken by ASFA Partner institutions is presented - from discussing the impact and use of the ASFA database in Benin, Guinea and Nigeria, to programmes such as the SureFISH consortium, to assist fish traceability and authenticity, and the Ocean InfoHub, a new initiative to streamline access to ocean science data and information for management and sustainable development. The impact of COVID-19 is felt across the world, and its impact on continuing aquatic science research in Africa during this time is concisely presented. -

No results found.Having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021, ASFA is now looking to the future and how it can support the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As an international network focused on disseminating the world’s aquatic science, fisheries and aquaculture research, there are many ways in which ASFA can and does contribute to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG14 (Life below water) is to “conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development” (https://sdgs.un.org/ goals/goal14) and this issue covers some of the ways in which ASFA contributes to this goal. These include how to search the ASFA database to find relevant research on these topics produced by institutions around the world. We also present an update on a project ASFA is supporting between FAO and SEAFDEC to record research and datasets from southeast Asia related to SDG Indicator 14.4.1 – proportion of fish stocks within biologically sustainable levels. In addition to SDG14, we also present the results of a survey on the impact of gender on career experiences of library and information professionals working in aquatic sciences – combining SDG14 with SDG 5 Gender Equality and SDG 8 Decent work and economic growth. Also presented in this issue is an article on SushiDrop project (SUstainable fiSHeries wIth DROnes data Processing) and the recently launched digital archive from the International Collective in Support of Fishworkers (ICSF).
