No results found.Los países de América Latina y el Caribe enfrentan serios desafíos para avanzar en el logro de la seguridad alimentaria y el desarrollo agrícola y rural. En los últimos años, estos desafíos van mucho más allá de la relativa escasez de recursos naturales, las incertidumbres climáticas, las dificultades de los pequeños productores o los problemas técnicos de la producción agrícola primaria. La inseguridad alimentaria en la región no se explica solamente por los niveles en la producción de ali mentos, sino por problemas de acceso a los alimentos disponibles, derivados de la pobreza y la marginalidad; ambas condiciones afectan al medio rural más que proporcionalmente. El ritmo y las características del crecimiento económico, la distribución del ingreso (familiar y regional) y la revalorización del medio rural resultan, así, fundamentales en el análisis de la seguridad alimentaria de la región. La creciente interdependencia de los procesos económicos nacionales que se manifiesta en ciclos económicos de alcance mundial, así como los efectos de los cambios en los flujos internacionales de capital sobre la rentabilidad de las actividades productivas, el crecimiento y las posibilidades de financiamiento del desarrollo de los países de América Latina y el Caribe, condicionan, también, los progresos en el desarrollo rural, así como las posibilidades de avanzar en la reducción de la pobreza y mejorar la seguridad alimentaria en la región. Con el propósito de contribuir a la búsqueda de respuestas a estos desafíos, la Oficina Regional de la FAO para América Latina y el Caribe ha preparado este documento, en apoyo a los trabajos de la Conferencia Regional de la FAO para América Latina y el Caribe. -

No results found.The Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture (KJWA) was established at COP23 to address six topics in the agricultural sector's role in climate change. KJWA has contributed to sharing scientific and technical knowledge, but limitations remain in translating outcomes into concrete climate actions. The new four-year joint work on the implementation of climate action on agriculture and food security, which prioritizes ending hunger and considers national circumstances, includes the creation of an online portal for sharing information. The four-year agenda is shaped and broadened through the submission of views by parties, observers, and civil society and will be considered by SBSTA and SBI in June 2023. -

No results found.This report illustrates the food loss assessment studies undertaken along the maize, sunflower and beans supply chains in Uganda in 2015-16 and 2016-17. They aimed to identify the critical loss points in the selected supply chains, the key stages at which food losses occur, why they occur, the extent and impact of food losses and the economic, social and environmental implications of the food losses. Furthermore, these studies also evaluated the feasibility of potential interventions to reduce food losses and waste.
