No results found.At the end of each census round, FAO reviews and assesses national census practices, methodologies and results, and summarizes the findings in methodological publications, under the Statistical Development Series (SDS). For the WCA 2010 round (2006–2015), these assessments have been presented in two separate publications. The first one, titled “Main results and metadata by country” (SDS 17), published in 2019, presented a compendium of census metadata and main results for a record number of 127 countries and territories. The SDS 18, i.e. this publication, presents in its first part (Chapters 1 to 12) a methodological review of the national censuses. In its second part (Chapter 13), it illustrates global comparable data on key variables characterizing the structure of agriculture. The global review of census results includes key structural variables that are not available elsewhere. Some examples are number and area of holdings, land tenure and holder gender. Other variables are land size classes, average holding sizes, legal status of holders, household sizes, source of farm labour, land use and operated land. -

No results found.With the advances in information technology, it is becoming possible to create a global database of fishing effort by gear type with an unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution. Such a database has the potential to assist with fisheries management and research around the globe. When initiating this publication, FAO intended to present this potential by reviewing AIS-based data in context of global and regional knowledge on fisheries, and to communicate the main findings as well as strengths and limitations of these data and current processing methodology. The aim of this document, hereafter referred to as the Atlas, is to enable stakeholders to understand the opportunity and challenges of mapping and analysing fishing activity with AIS data. For each FAO Area, based on AIS data, this Atlas presents the number and percentage of vessels broadcasting AIS, the spatial patterns of presence and intensity of fishing activity, and an analysis by gear type. For these data, the Atlas includes detailed methods, case studies, and comparisons with outside data. These comparisons, explanatory text, and caveats are presented with the goal of helping member countries understand how this new dataset can be applied. To ensure the accuracy of the conclusions, over 50 fishery experts from around the world reviewed and assessed the maps, charts, and supporting text produced by the authors and editorial team. -

No results found.Устойчивое управление почвенными ресурса-ми — единственный путь к сохранению почв как важнейшего компонента природного капитала, обеспечивающего не только урожайность продо-вольственных и кормовых культур, но и произ-водство многочисленных дополнительных эко-системных услуг. В Евразийском регионе, несмотря на огром-ную площадь и высокую обеспеченность земель-ными ресурсами, проблемы рационального ис-пользования почв стоят необычайно остро. На его территории сходятся два принципиально различных механизма деградации земель: пер-вый связан с низким технологическим уровнем земледелия, а второй — с избыточным давлени-ем высокотехнологичной обработки почвы и хи-мизации сельского хозяйства. Данная книга была написана именно в рамках до-кументов, использованных ФАО, и по сути явля-ется первым опытом регионального применения рекомендаций, изложенных в Добровольных ру-ководящих принципах рационального использо-вания почвенных ресурсов и ряде уточняющих документов. Мы отдаем себе отчет в огромном разнообра-зии природных условий и специализации сельско-го хозяйства на огромной территории, занимаю-щей 1/6 часть суши. Поэтому в книге широкими мазками даются только наиболее общие сведения по УУПР в каждой из стран и их природно-тер-риториальных единицах. Очевидно, что вырабо-танные нами рекомендации должны будут вне-дряться в практику уже на национальном и локальном уровнях. Тем не менее мы надеемся, что издание позволит выработать общую основу для сохранения и улучшения почвенных ресур-сов, которые являются основой существования нашей цивилизации.
