The objective of the publication is to provide a regional overview and show the joint efforts of FAO and the World Food Program in supporting the School Feeding Programs (SFPs) in Latin America and the Caribbean. Likewise, the document focuses on the main strategic areas of joint work, within the framework of the common vision of the SFPs as a public policy instrument to achieve the goals of sustainable development by 2030. Finally, this document presents three case studies from countries where FAO and WFP work together in support of SFPs: Dominican Republic, Colombia and Honduras. -

No results found.School feeding programmes in the Caribbean, as elsewhere, have long been established and recognised as an important instrument in facilitating learning, especially for poor and vulnerable school children. More recently, in Latin America and the Caribbean, while school feeding programmes (SFPs) maintain their original purpose, the goals of these programmes, as well as the forms of delivery of the assistance have evolved. Experience with SFPs elsewhere, primarily in Brazil, has prompted Caribbean governments to consider SFPs as an integral part of their social protection and development strategy. -

School feeding laws are important instruments for the realization of the right to adequate food, the right to education, and the right to health of the schoolchildren.
