Synopsis (short abstract) La FAO evalúa que en todo el mundo 45 países −de los cuales 33 están en África, nueve en Asia, dos en América Latina y el Caribe y uno en Europa−, necesitan ayuda alimentaria externa. En África oriental, la situación de inseguridad alimentaria provocada por las sequías durante varias temporadas es grave y, a menos que se amplíe la ayuda humanitaria, se prevé una situación de hambruna en algunas partes de Somalia. A nivel mundial, las elevadas tasas de inflación desde hace varios años, en medio de entornos macroeconómicos difíciles, están agravando las condiciones de inseguridad alimentaria, en especial en los países de bajos ingresos con déficit de alimentos.

This list now includes Ukraine and Sri Lanka. Serious concerns also relate to East Africa due to multiple seasons of drought conditions, with a looming risk of famine in some areas. Across the globe, the rising food prices and overall inflation are worsening food security conditions, particularly in low-income food-deficit countries, while the use of agricultural inputs could be limited by their elevated prices, possibly lowering yields and harvests in 2022.
