Synopsis (short abstract) The Niger continues to face a complex humanitarian crisis, mainly due to civil insecurity, severe flooding and spillover effects from the conflicts in Burkina Faso, Mali and Nigeria, including cross-border population movements. A decline in agricultural and livestock production, including due to animal theft and inaccessible pastures, continues to drive acute food insecurity and malnutrition. With 80 percent of the population living in rural areas and relying on agriculture for their livelihoods, FAO's production support enables vulnerable communities to address immediate food needs while strengthening their resilience.
