The major topics discussed were: status of Lake Tanganyika fisheries by national sectors; application of the FAO Code of Conduct for responsible fisheries in the management of Lake Tanganyika and for the control and responsible use of alien species in the lake basin; collaboration between FAO and other Lake Tanganyika partners in the fisheries programmes and projects; and future role of the FAO CIFA Sub-Committee in the context of the Lake Tanganyika Convention.
