Locusts in CCA General situation during June 2018 Forecast until mid-August 2018 Moroccan Locust (DMA) mating and egg-laying were in progress in most countries. During the forecast period, its natural cycle will come to an end. Italian Locust (CIT) hopper development was in progress and fledging started in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Migratory Locust (LMI) hopper development continued in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and started in the Russian Federation. For both CIT and LMI, mating and egg-laying will start during the forecast period. Since the beginning of the national campaigns, about 3 066 000 ha have been treated in Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA). -

Locust Bulletin in CCA General situation during April 2018 Forecast until mid-June 2018 Moroccan Locust (DMA) hopper development was in progress in all Central Asian (CA) countries except the Russian Federation as well as in Georgia and probably in Azerbaijan. Because of the earlier appearance of the pest, DMA situation is considered as critical in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. During the forecast period, DMA fledging will occur in most countries while hatching followed by hopper development will take place in the Russian Federation and generalize in Georgia and probably Azerbaijan. Italian Locust (CIT) hopper development will continue in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan and hatching will start in the other CCA countries. LMI hatching will also start. Moroccan Locust (DMA) fledging, mating and egg-laying started in southern parts of Central Asia, where also swarm flights were reported, especially in areas near state borders. DMA hopper development continued in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russian Federation; in Georgia fledging already started by the end of May. Italian Locust (CIT) hatching and hopper development continued in Georgia and in Central Asian (CA) countries. Migratory Locust (LMI) hatching started in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. A dangerous situation was reported for CIT in Georgia while situation was classified as caution for both DMA and CIT in most countries. During the forecasted period, DMA breeding will continue and its lifecycle will come to the end while CIT and LMI hopper development will continue in Azerbaijan, Russian Federation and northern regions of Kazakhstan. CIT fledging will occur in other regions of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In total, more than 665 000 hectares (ha) have been treated in CCA from the beginning of the 2021 campaign to the end of May, which is 11 percent higher compared to the same period in 2020.
