No results found.The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) sets forth in its Strategic Framework 2020-2030, eight development agenda items to achieve its objectives. These agenda items are in various stages of implementation and include 1) harmonization of electronic data exchange; 2) commodity- and pathway-specific International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs); 3) management of e-commerce and postal and courier pathways; 4) developing guidance on the use of third-party entities; 5) strengthening Pest Outbreak Alert and Response Systems (POARS); 6) assessment and management of climate-change impacts on plant health; 7) global phytosanitary research coordination; and 8) diagnostic laboratory networking. Funding for these agenda items are needed to jumpstart or sustain ongoing work. This brochure serves to inform and engage current and potential donors to invest in IPPC's work through these eight development agenda items. -

A guide for developing contingency plans for outbreaks of quarantine pests
2023The introduction and purpose provide the scope and background of the guide, as well as key principles of outbreak management and description and comparison of generic and specific contingency plans. Organizational arrangements cover legislation, command structure, training, outbreak exercises, consultation, resourcing, communications, documentation, and funding. Background information on the pest provides information on pest risk assessment. Official actions based on presumptive diagnosis include information about notification, escalation, triage and significance assessment including staff resourcing, imposition of measures and maintenance of trade. The chapter on official actions to eradicate the pest after confirmation of diagnosis includes area restrictions, movement controls, trace forward and trace back, delimitation and surveillance, legislation, treatments and other management measures, and engagement with stakeholders. Review of measures in cases of prolonged official actions considers establishing trigger points, auditing and considering how success is demonstrated. Determining completion of official action considers criteria for pest freedom and measures to maintain plant pest freedom. The chapter on recovery and compensation covers de-escalation, stakeholder support and compensation arrangements. Evaluation and revision of contingency plans considers lessons learned, consideration of gaps in the plan, revision of the plan, and implementation of lessons learned. -

No results found.The 17th session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures approved in 2023 the establishment of a global phytosanitary research coordination mechanism. This will allow regular identification of common plant health research priorities, to eliminate duplication of research activities and to facilitate the efficient use of financial and human resources.

It is divided into sections focusing on matters regarding the workflow, visual identity, content and structure of FAO publications. In addition to FAOSTYLE in six languages, this guidance also includes: "Publishing policy", providing high-level guidance aimed at those involved in the creation or approval of a publishing plan; "Authorship and plagiarism guidelines", outlining the principles and criteria for authorship of FAO publications; "Graphic design guidelines", focusing on the practical application of FAO's visual identity and design standards; “Responsible use of AI in publishing”, covering how to use AI responsibly and ethically when producing a publication; “Open Access policy”, a summary of the policy that encourages the wide use, reproduction and dissemination of the intellectual property that FAO produces; and "Digital publishing", guidance on how to create a digital (HTML) publication. Publishing at FAO is a living document and will continue to evolve as publishing practices evolve. A new section on managing a publishing project is forthcoming. Last updated June 2025.
