Compounded by the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, needs have become more severe. Providing households with urgent access to food is critical to reinforce and build their ability to absorb shocks and stresses, such as the ongoing conflict, the impacts of COVID-19 and the country’s seasonal wildfires. -

Preliminary results from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) monitoring system show a worsening trend in food security, especially in oblasts with active ongoing fighting and those with the highest numbers of displaced people. Within those hosting significant populations of internally displaced people, 20 percent of host households lack cash to meet their basic food needs and cover bills, and on average 80 percent are resorting to various coping mechanisms and incurring debts. FAO requires USD 115.4 million to assist 981 627 people in rural areas until the end of December. To date, FAO has raised USD 8.4 million to reach 70 941 people with livelihoods support. With more resources, FAO will be able to reach more people in time for the spring season. This support is needed urgently. -

No results found.Through its Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for 2024, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) requires a total of USD 150 million to assist 821 050 people in rural areas and small farmers by distributing agricultural production inputs to ensure they can rely on their own production. To date, FAO has raised USD 28.9 million against the total of USD 150 million under the ERP 2024, leaving a gap of USD 121.1 million. In 2024, FAO has supported 45 724 rural families with cash and voucher assistance and drip irrigation kits to enable them to cover their immediate needs and restore and keep production. Moreover, 4 741 farmers benefited from the distribution of spring crops seeds, generators, temporary storage solutions, animal feed, cash and vouchers.FAO is finalizing its Emergency and Early Recovery Response Plan for 2025–2026, targeting 550 000 rural people and small farmers affected by the ongoing war. This comprehensive plan outlines a phased approach to provide both immediate relief and long-term recovery support to the agriculture sector.
