Synopsis (short abstract) The West Africa subregion has a number of unique characteristics as regards economic development in general and forestry development in particular. It has a long history of forest management, in some countries dating back to almost a century, and there are considerable opportunities to learn from successes and failures. This report provides an overview of the trends in forestry in West Africa in the context of current and emerging economic, social, institutional and technologic al changes in the subregion as well as those at the global and regional levels.
