    Strengthening the agricultural innovation system (AIS) is a key step to accomplishing food systems transformation. Lack of policy cohesiveness and limited integration of policies and investment plans have constrained the pathway to achieve the SDGs. This side-event will present a framework that defines pathways to food systems transformation using integration at the policy, capacity and investment levels within AISs. It will also analyse the status of existing policies and financial mechanisms and investments, including lessons learned, experiences, and success factors for implementation of such frameworks in several countries. Based on the analysis, guidelines for a holistic approach to strengthen enabling environments through integrated policies and increasing investments for agricultural innovation at country and regional levels with be discussed and validated.

    The Science and Innovation Forum (SIF) 2024 Report captures the key outcomes and insights from one of the cornerstone events of the World Food Forum (WFF), held from 14–18 October 2024. Under the theme “Inclusive Science and Innovation for Agrifood Systems Transformation, Leaving No One Behind,” the report explores how inclusive, equitable, and accessible science and innovation can drive sustainable change in global agrifood systems.The report is structured around three impactful deep dives that reflect the diverse ways science, technology and innovation are shaping agrifood systems. Community-driven innovation highlights the power of local knowledge and grassroots solutions in addressing agrifood system challenges. Digital agriculture explores how emerging technologies such as AI and data-driven tools are transforming farming practices, improving efficiency, and enhancing resilience. Meanwhile, biotechnologies examine the responsible and inclusive application of scientific advancements to improve crop yields, sustainability, and food security. The report also examines the barriers to adoption, how we can overcome them along with exploring how we can bring impact at scale. The report brings together voices from Nobel laureates, scientists, youth, farmers, and policymakers to highlight real-world innovations that are shaping a more resilient and equitable future for food and agriculture.

    The 2022 edition of The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture coincides with the launch of the Decade of Action to deliver the Global Goals, the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. It presents how these and other equally important United Nations events, such as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022), are being integrated and supported through Blue Transformation, a priority area of FAO’s new Strategic Framework 2022–2031 designed to accelerate achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in food and agriculture. The concept of Blue Transformation emerged from the Thirty-fourth Session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries in February 2021, and in particular the Declaration for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, which was negotiated and endorsed by all FAO Members. The Declaration calls for support for “an evolving and positive vision for fisheries and aquaculture in the twenty first century, where the sector is fully recognized for its contribution to fighting poverty, hunger and malnutrition.” In this context, Part 1 of this edition of The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture reviews the world status of fisheries and aquaculture, while Parts 2 and 3 are devoted to Blue Transformation and its pillars on intensifying and expanding aquaculture, improving fisheries management and innovating fisheries and aquaculture value chains. Blue Transformation emphasizes the need for forward-looking and bold actions to be launched or accelerated in coming years to achieve the objectives of the Declaration and in support of the 2030 Agenda. Part 4 covers current and high-impact emerging issues – COVID-19, climate change and gender equality – that require thorough consideration for transformative steps and preparedness to secure sustainable, efficient and equitable fisheries and aquaculture.

La deuxième partie porte sur le rôle de la FAO et de ses partenaires pour ce qui est de catalyser les changements porteurs de transformation qu’il faut opérer afin de favoriser l’expansion et l’intensification de l’aquaculture, une gestion efficace des pêches mondiales et la modernisation des chaînes de valeur des produits aquatiques.La troisième partie est consacrée aux défis et aux possibilités liés au potentiel inexploité des poissons entiers et de leurs sous-produits pouvant améliorer la sécurité alimentaire et la nutrition, et qui sont susceptibles d’avoir un fort impact dans ce domaine.     As the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity 2011–2020 comes to a close and countries prepare to adopt a post-2020 global biodiversity framework, this edition of The State of the World’s Forests (SOFO) examines the contributions of forests, and of the people who use and manage them, to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. Forests cover just over 30 percent of the global land area, yet they provide habitat for the vast majority of the terrestrial plant and animal species known to science. Unfortunately, forests and the biodiversity they contain continue to be under threat from actions to convert the land to agriculture or unsustainable levels of exploitation, much of it illegal.The State of the World’s Forests 2020 assesses progress to date in meeting global targets and goals related to forest biodiversity and examines the effectiveness of policies, actions and approaches, in terms of both conservation and sustainable development outcomes. A series of case studies provide examples of innovative practices that combine conservation and sustainable use of forest biodiversity to create balanced solutions for both people and the planet.
