The Scaling up Climate Ambition on Land Use and Agriculture through nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) (SCALA) programme recognizes their unique role in driving innovation and investment for transformative climate action in agriculture and land use. The SCALA private sector engagement guidance series aims to support SCALA-supported countries in their efforts to engage with the private sector for the implementation of their national climate plans. The first addition to this series is the "Private sector mapping, outreach, and engagement in climate-responsive agrifood systems" guidance. This guidance outlines a three-step process for collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive NAPs and NDCs implementation. It explains how to identify relevant private sector actors, prioritize them based on climate relevance and potential contributions, and engage them strategically in joint climate action. By utilising this guidance, countries can enhance private sector engagement, foster partnerships, and drive climate actions in the agrifood sectors. -

No results found.As the national adaptation plan (NAP) process gains global momentum, this joint FAO–UNDP analysis produced under the SCALA programme looks across all NAPs from developing countries – 64 in total as of 15 June 2025 – to take stock of adaptation priorities and needs in agrifood systems. The analysis serves as a reference for guiding adaptation implementation and investments, highlighting adaptation planning progress and gaps, and providing actionable insights on how to strengthen the integration of agrifood systems into NAPs in a way that is grounded in evidence-based, forward-looking, and inclusive approaches. It recognizes that agrifood systems are highly sensitive and exposed to climate change, and their effective integration into NAPs is an important step towards advancing resilience, food security, and sustainable development.

The Near East and North Africa Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition warns that the Arab region remains off-track to meet the food security and nutrition targets of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.In 2023, 66.1 million people, approximately 14 percent of the population in the Arab region, faced hunger. The report highlights that access to adequate food remains elusive for millions. Around 186.5 million people – 39.4 percent of the population – faced moderate or severe food insecurity, an increase of 1.1 percentage points from the previous year. Alarmingly, 72.7 million people experienced severe food insecurity. -

No results found.Between 2 and 17 January 2024, following a request by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MoA&F), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in close cooperation with the Food Security Technical Secretariat (FSTS) and the State Ministries of Agriculture, carried out its annual Crop and Food Supply Assessment Mission (CFSAM) to estimate the 2023 crop production and assess the food supply situation throughout the 18 states of the country. The report's recommendations are to provide immediate response to the needs of the population most affected by acute food insecurity as well as to support the recovery of the agriculture sector, increasing food production and farmers’ incomes, and enhancing efficiency along the value chain to reduce production costs.
